Will maternity insurance cover me if I get pregnant before the 365-day waiting period?

Question by Tonya: Will maternity insurance cover me if I get pregnant before the 365-day waiting period?
My husband-to-be and I were planning to start trying for a baby after our wedding this December. We didn’t know that our insurance company (BCBS) required a 365-day waiting period on maternity before they would cover costs. If I end up pregnant but the baby isn’t actually born until the waiting period is over, will the insurance company cover the hospital bill? Or is this considered pre-exisiting and voids the insurance? I’ll be talking to my agent this week, but I was just wondering if anyone knew.

  • what part of Waiting Period do you not understand?

  • No it would not be covered. It would be considered a pre-existing condition if you conceive prior to the 365-day waiting period being up and no part of the pre-natal appointments or birth would be covered.

  • healthquotes.awardspace.info – try this one. My sister had no problem with her insurance coverage while being pregnant.
